Fans choose third for Team Bestie

TrishStratus.com     August 31, 2015

Over the last week here at TrishStratus.com, we asked you who Trish Stratus and Amy Dumas should add to their team if the WWE Hall of Famers were to bring Team Bestie into the Divas Revolution mix to battle with PCB, Team Bella and Team B.A.D.

The votes have now been tabulated and we're pleased to announce that the winning competitor is none other than the woman who is closely associated with the final days of both Trish and Lita in WWE – Mickie James.

"It means a lot to me," Mickie said after being told she won the fan vote. "I joked as the poll was going on that we would be 'Team Better Than All The Restie' but honestly there are so many great female competitors today that I certainly didn't expect it."

Other women whose names appeared on the final tally list included Victoria at a close second, Ronda Rousey, Paige, Bayley, Lana, Molly Holly, Torrie Wilson, Sasha Banks, Natalya, Stephanie McMahon and AJ Lee.

About Mickie

Mickie, of course, is yet another famous name from women's competition in WWE's illustrious history. The Virginia native holds the distinction of being the only female to hold the WWE Women's and Divas Championships and the TNA Knockouts Championship.

As alluded to, Mickie's career is intertwined with those of Trish and Amy. Trish's final match on Raw was against Mickie, while Mickie also gave Amy her final match. At the time, Mickie was still a fresh face to WWE, but previously competed in independent leagues, TNA and Ring of Honor. Mickie reflected on her time in the ring with Trish and Amy.

"To sum it up in one word I'd say I was "Blessed!" Mickie said. "It was honestly bitter sweet because in my personal opinion when they left so did a lot of the credibility of the division and slowly it transcended in what became the 'Divas Division'. No one in the division then or even now had or has reached that level of stardom as they had. They were obviously key players in what I consider to be the hottest time in the business. Therefore they were also able to become household names across the globe to even those who weren't wrestling fans."

On the "New Competition"

Today, Mickie still competes on the independent circuit and recently had a return stint with TNA. Needless to say would be ready if the call came for the Team Bestie Trio to mix it up with the new generation of incredible competitors who have lit up NXT and WWE in recent months. Mickie has watched these girls herself and is proud of what they've accomplished.

"I think the talent coming up right now is some of the best that we've had in a long time. It's awesome to have watched them grow from the Indy level, through NXT, and now making such an impact on WWE," she says. "It reminds me of not only my own career, but the ladies who came in with me who scratched and clawed their way to the top. I have so much respect for that path because I've been there. I've lived it... I know exactly where they're coming from and what they're feeling right now."

And is there one in particular that Mickie would like to tangle with, given the opportunity to do so?

"If I had to pick just one of them right now I think I'd go with Sasha Banks. She is a star in my eyes. She has all the tools both in and out the ring," she says, while adding, "but honestly I'd love to face them all. Not only to give them a run for their money... But to test myself as well. Stylistically they're all so good & different that each match would have a uniqueness to it to make them all special."

As the interview with Mickie closed, she had one last word she wanted to add:

"Thank you to Amy for going to bat for a naive indyriffic girl with a dream and maybe a little talent when you surely didn't have to. I know in my heart that was a key factor in me getting an opportunity at my dream in the 1st place. Thank you Trish for welcoming me with open arms & making me feel like my opinion mattered. For laughing & being goofy with me to help me feel more comfortable. And for helping make me a star when I was so new and again... You didn't have to! You both were ultimate professionals. I know I wouldn't have had the success & career I've been fortunate enough to have if it wasn't for the opportunity to share them with you!"
