Toronto Sun: Driver Source: Trish Stratus

The Toronto-born Stratus has male and female fans of all ages cheering her on.
Because she grew up with two sisters, it was her male cousins who first introduced her to professional wrestling. The rest, as they say, is history.
Stratus made her debut in March 2000 on Sunday Night Heat. She has certainly caused temperatures to rise in and out of the ring. In 2002, she was the cover girl of Divas magazine. She has won the Women's Title four times. In May 2003, Elle magazine named her one of Canada's 30 most powerful women.
Stratus believes in giving back to the community. She supports many charities including Easter Seals and The Special Olympics.
Stratus graciously took time on a Saturday evening off to chat about her wheels.
Q: Tell us about this wonderful vehicle of yours and what attracted you to it?
A: It's a silver 2001 Cadillac STS. It's like my lifestyle: stylish, efficient and practical. I love the fact that it's also sporty and elegant. It has lots of truck space, which is very important because I travel every week and need ample room for my bags.
Q: What features of the car do you especially like?
A: The heated seats definitely rule in the winter. The Cadillac has such a smooth ride.
Q: What other vehicles struck your fancy when you were car shopping?
A: I looked at BMWs. I decided on the Cadillac because it just rides so well and looks so good. I take comfort in the thought that I know what I'm getting with the Cadillac.
Q: Tell us about your debut as producer for your video and DVD release Trish Stratus 100% Stratusfaction Guaranteed.
A: I'm very proud of this project. It is a journey through the life and times of Trish. It includes highlights from my career, from my beginnings in the WWE in 2000 up to now.
It includes my character's evolution in the WWE, personal insights on my youth and teens, and interviews with my family and friends. It's a lovely, nostalgic trip. Even the car made it into the DVD extras on the house tour segment.
Q: Do you enjoy driving?
A: Absolutely! I wish I could drive this car more when I'm home in Toronto, but I'm on the road so much of the time. It seems I only use it to drive to and from the airport and for running errands.
Q: What did you add to the car to give it your personal style?
A: I added tinted windows to give it a little pizzazz.
Q: Do you tinker with the Cadillac?
A: It's too cold in Toronto to get out and change a tire or the oil. But I can do it.
Q: Do you remember your first car?
A: Yes. My boyfriend bought me my first car when I started university. He spent $750 on a grey Horizon. The car had a huge, rusted dent in the driver's door. It certainly helped me to get places.
Q: Do you remember family road trips growing up?
A: Mostly we drove to the cottage. One time, the family drove in my mom's Buick from Toronto to South Carolina. There were four of us in the back seat. It was quite a trip. I was the entertainer and trouble-maker. I wouldn't let anyone go to sleep.
Q: Who taught you to drive?
A: My girlfriend and I were underage and her sister taught us to drive. I remember on one occasion we took the car before we could legally and went out. Boy, did we get into trouble.
Q: Speaking of university, there is an interesting story that's connected to a strike?
A: Yes. I was in my last year studying biology and kinesiology at York University. York teachers went on strike in 1997. During that time, I was approached to do fitness modelling and then I was encouraged to go into wrestling by WWE scouts. If there hadn't been a strike I'd be Dr. Stratus by now.
Q: Do you have a fantasy car?
A: Right now I'm considering moving on to a Cadillac Escalade. I'm not into driving a flashy car. I just like looking at them.
Q: Have you had any strange experiences while driving?
A: I drive a lot for my job. I drive from the event to the next town. On a couple of occasions I've arrived at my hotel and fans have driven up behind me and said "We followed you the entire way and you were driving crazy. Can we have an autograph?" I find most of the fans are loyal and respectful.
Q: What's the silliest thing you've done in a car?
A: Well I love to sing in the car. I always have music playing -- from R&B to country. I'm a huge fan of Shania Twain. I forget when I'm driving a rental car without tinted windows. I have been caught belting out the tunes with Shania more than once.
Q: Are you looking forward to the 20th anniversary of WrestleMania in March?
A: Oh yes! It's going to be a great event. WrestleMania is always special. I hoping to have a good place in the show so I can deliver some Stratusfaction.
