February 2007. Toronto, ON –
CBC Television and The Second City have announced the all star line-up for The Second City's Next Comedy Legend. Second City's Next Comedy Legend is a talent search program airing this summer. Featured performers will include Second City alumni Dave Thomas
, Joe Flaherty
and Elvira Kurt
, and the program will be hosted by WWE alumnus and actress Trish Stratus
The cast is an exciting blend of legendary Second City/SCTV performers and some of the best of Second City's latest generation. Together, they will help determine who will be The Second City's Next Comedy Legend.
The Second City's Next Comedy Legend is an eight-episode talent search series that begins with regional audition events, and then moves on to a finalist stage produced on The Second City stage in Toronto. It's not stand-up comedy. Instead, aspiring sketch and improv comedy actors will be forced to truly work in partnership together in the spirit of "yes, and . . ." – building a show that is partly classic Second City sketches, partly improv and collaborated on by the hopefuls themselves.
Along the way, they'll be assisted by Second City mentors and evaluated by celebrity judges. Each week, the judges will have to make the difficult decision to send one participant home.
Each episode will feature Trish interacting with the contestants and judges as the competition builds toward the finale.
Auditions for the show will take place March 20th in Vancouver, March 24th in Calgary, March 28th in Halifax and April 4th in Toronto. More information, including audition registration information and how to audition will be available at www.nextcomedylegend.com
Trish made a special appearance and was a guest star with the Mainstage cast for one unique evening of sketch comedy back in August 2004. Once she got a chance to flex her funny bone, she was hooked and has since become a frequent visitor to the stage to join the cast for the famous improv sets that follow the shows.
