|Your guide to stratusfaction on WWE Network
TORONTO (CP) - Canada's Walk of Fame is planning some "Stratusfaction" for its 2006 induction ceremony in June.
Trish Stratus, the Toronto-born superstar of World Wrestling Entertainment, has been chosen to host the gala at which the latest batch of accomplished Canadian celebrities - to be announced March 8 - will be honoured. "Oh my God, I'm so excited!" the glamorous model-turned-wrestler gushed in a telephone interview from Trenton, N.J., where she was touring with the WWE.
"Just the fact that the event itself recognizes Canadian talent, Canadian artists, just to be part of it is wonderful. Hosting it is fantastic."
Asked if following comic Tom Green as gala host - he did it the last two years - might be an incentive to end up on the Walk of Fame herself one day, she said that would be great.
"Yeah, that definitely inspires me to just keep pushing on as a Canadian artist, for sure."
While the June 3 hosting gig at Toronto's Hummingbird Centre might not give her any clout to recommend new inductees, Stratus did agree that Canadian wrestler Bret Hart deserves consideration, as do some of the legends from the old days like Killer Kowalski, Lord Athol Layton and Little Beaver.
Stratus giggled when informed that opera singer Teresa Stratas is already on the Walk.
"Yeah, she's my aunt and she's a way better singer than me. Just kidding!"
The pro wrestling diva's motto and finishing move is called Stratusfaction, and while she is known for being good at both grappling and looking good, she hopes her gig will allow her to show off her lesser-known talent for comedy. She promises some quirky and funny moments.
"I've already had to sign a disclosure saying I won't beat up anybody," she says with a laugh. "And then I wrote back in brackets, 'but only if I got really, really mad!'"
Toronto, ON (February 22, 2006) - Glitter meets glam at the 2006 Canada’s Walk of Fame tribute gala. Canada’s Walk of Fame along with broadcast partner CTV confirmed today that Trish Stratus, the reigning World Wrestling Entertainment® (WWE®) Women’s Champion, will host the 2006 Canada’s Walk of Fame broadcast. The 2006 Canada’s Walk of Fame induction ceremony will be held Saturday, June 3 at Toronto’s Hummingbird Centre.
Stratus will unveil the 2006 Inductees for Canada’s Walk of Fame at a press conference scheduled for Wednesday, March 8 at the Paramount Theatre in Toronto.
Toronto native Trish Stratus is recognized around the globe as one of the WWE’s biggest stars and one of the world’s most successful sports entertainers. In addition to her role with the WWE, she is a multi-talented entertainer who has performed live with Toronto’s Second City, appeared on Royal Canadian Air Farce and was named one of “Canada’s 30 Most Powerful Women” by Elle Canada in 2003. She has appeared on Fox’s Mad TV, performed at Montreal’s Just For Laughs festival and has co-hosted CTV’s eTalk Daily.
“I’m really thrilled to be hosting, even though I wasn’t the first choice,” said Stratus. “I understand the guys from Brokeback Mountain refused to wax.” Stratus said she was won over by the efforts of Canada’s Walk of Fame CEO and President, Peter Soumalias.
“I’d really like to thank Peter for this great opportunity,” she said. “And the flowers. And for the hugs. Really, enough with the hugs.”
“Trish is a multi-talented performer,” said Soumalias. “Through hard work, dedication, and perseverance, she has risen to the pinnacle of her profession at a very young age. In many ways, she personifies the principles of Canada’s Walk of Fame.”
"From fashion and fitness to TV and print, Trish Stratus is a multi-media, cross-over star with wide appeal, " said Susanne Boyce, CTV President of Programming and Chair of the CTV Media Group. “We know she will attract a whole new audience to the broadcast.”
