WWE announced this week that Kurt Angle would be the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.
Angle, who hasn't been part of WWE since 2006, was one of the company's most decorated Superstars, winning the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships on multiple occasions before leaving for TNA, and is widely considered to be one of the best all-around Superstars of his generation.
"I am so happy to hear that Kurt is going to be inducted," Trish said who found out after giving birth to her second child. "He is one of the industry's best in the ring and had one of the most memorable (and lovable!) characters! I am honored to have had the chance to work with him and call him a friend."
Angle had several run-ins with Trish over the years, the most vibrant of which came in 2001. Amid a rivalry with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, Trish temporarily became Angle's manager whilst being involved in a tryst with Mr. McMahon (and fueding with Stephanie herself). Trish was at ringside when Kurt defeated Triple H for the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble 2001. Earlier, Trish main evented Raw alongside Angle in a Mixed Gender Tag Team Match against Triple H and Stephanie. Later in 2001, the two were on opposite sides of the ring when Trish teamed with The Rock to face Angle and Mr. McMahon, also a main event match.
"I remember before I made my debut I was submitting storyline/character ideas to the office and one of them involved Kurt. I recall being backstage, newly signed, and pitching it to him – he must have thought 'yeah, I want to align myself with you, newbie. I'm good thanks', she laughed. "I was pretty excited when they pitched me our storyline, what a great character to work with – a classic!"
Angle's induction into the WWE Hall of Fame will take place during WrestleMania 33 weekend.
