Ottawa Sun: Trish hot in, out of ring

Now Toronto's own WWE star is just this side of sizzling -- with her own video, 100% Stratusfaction, and a storyline romance blooming with Chris Jericho, the self-proclaimed King of Bling Bling and former Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla. While the video was expected ... it would be hard to ignore Trish's status with the fans who have made her a three-time Babe of the Year ... the romance is out of the blue, an interesting twist by WWE's scriptwriters.
"The unique thing about it is Chris is a heel and I'm a babyface -- kind of a forbidden romance," says Trish on the phone line from Los Angeles. "I'm so excited about it. When we started it, the chemistry between us was so strong, we decided to continue it. The water-cooler talk the next day was 'Trish and Chris.'"
"It brings the soap opera element back to the show."
"I think Chris Jericho and Trish Stratus are the most consistent characters on the show. And this gives us an extra dimension."
If Trish was well-known before, it'll be interesting to see what the video -- a look back at her rise to the top -- does for her career, one that she's tried to build not only off her status as a sex symbol, but also on her intelligence and brawn.
"I like to keep a good balance," says Trish. "I love the fact that female kids can look to me ... and so can older kids, older men and older women. I'm really taken aback (by the fan reaction). It's a humbling experience.
"We were in Toronto, and I was walking around with Victoria. She was completely blown away (by the fan reaction to Trish) -- from McDonald's to Shoppers Drug Mart, everywhere we went. But I'm so used to it now."
Understand that Trish has a quick wit, knee-buckling smile and wonderful personality -- a wicked one-two-three punch. Trish says she's thrilled with the new video, something she started thinking about a few years ago.
"I went into this knowing what I wanted to get out of it," she says. "Lita got her video when she was probably a year onto the scene. I thought, 'well, maybe one day I'll have a video.'
"So, literally years ago I started to think about this. I'm a control freak and I'm really nitpicky about details. I wanted to see the final cuts. So I knew this would tell the whole story -- from A to Z. If you're hands-on, you cannot be disappointed.
"I'm really proud of this. It's certainly a nostalgic journey. I'm thrilled to have had enough of a career so far to be able to put it on DVD."
A four-time women's champion, Trish is in demand in and out of the ring. Some would expect the Diva of the Decade to shed her clothes and pose nude for Playboy, following in the footsteps of divas Sable, Chyna and Torrie Wilson. But Trish says it won't happen.
"I've always been a fan of leaving things to the imagination,"she says. "Playboy is not really something I'm interested in. If people want to see a sexy image of me, I think I can still give it to them (without taking my clothes off)."
Along with her current storyline relationship with Jericho, Trish has got plenty on her mind, especially with Christmas around the corner. She'll get to spend some time at home in Toronto.
"It's so exciting," says Trish. "I'll be wrapping presents ... and eating a lot of food."
And we'll be unwrapping our Trish videos from under the Christmas tree.
