Press Release: Second City gets Stratusfied
TORONTO, July 13 /CNW/ - Kicking off an exciting series of events leading up to World Wrestling Entertainment(R)'s SummerSlam Pay-Per-View in Toronto, The Second City's 55th revue, Invasion Free Since 1812 promises to knock out fans on August 12th when WWE(TM) Diva, Trish Stratus(TM) makes a special guest appearance with the Mainstage cast for one unique evening of sketch comedy.
Inspired by watching a recent performance of current production, Invasion Free, Stratus approached The Second City with a desire to join the cast for a one-off evening. The show, hosted by Stratus, promises to amuse audiences with its satirical commentary and fresh approach to local, national and global issues and what will undoubtedly be sketch after sketch of hilarious and provocative material, with Stratus appearing in her favourite sketches.
"I had a chance to see Trish on MAD TV recently and thought she was absolutely terrific," comments Andrew Alexander, co-chairman, CEO and executive producer of The Second City. "We jumped at the chance to have her onstage with our cast when she expressed her interest in The Second City."
"As an entertainer, I am always looking for new challenges and ways to step out of the box," says Trish Stratus. "I am so excited to have the opportunity to be part of the great comedy tradition that is The Second City. To me, The Second City is synonymous with the highest standards of comedy and I'm honoured to be performing on the same stage that has seen legends like Mike Myers, Eugene Levy, Gilda Radner and Martin Short!"
The must-attend evening kicks off with a special red carpet entrance and private cocktail reception followed by a 7 PM show, Mainstage at The Second City. Ticket prices are $27 plus GST and go on sale on July 12th through the Box Office at (416) 343-0011 OR online at www.secondcity.com. Invasion Free Since 1812 is directed by Second City alumnus Bob Martin, recent recipient of a Canadian Screenwriter's Award for the hit series "Slings and Arrows" on The Movie Network. The Mainstage cast features the sharpest and funniest rising stars of the Canadian comedy scene, including Matt Baram, Paul Constable, Sandy Jobin-Bevans, Jamillah Ross and Naomi Snieckus. The show's Stage Manager is K. MacPherson Jones, Musical Director is Bob Derkach and Producer is Carlie Baxter.
